Career Journey Of Joe Rogan

Joe never planned to become a professional comedian, but he loved comedy from a young age. He once said that watching Richard Pryor’s special Live on the Sunset Strip had a deep impact on him.

When Rogan was 21, he spent six months preparing and practicing for his first stand-up routine. He performed it on August 27, 1988, at an open-mic night at Stitches Comedy Club in Boston.

In 1990, Joe Rogan moved to New York City to focus on comedy full-time. He struggled financially and stayed with his grandfather in Newark for the first six months.

In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles, where he got his first national TV appearance on MTV’s Half-Hour Comedy Hour.

From 1995 to 1999, Joe played Joe Garrelli, an electrician and handyman, on the NBC sitcom NewsRadio. In 1997, he started working with the UFC as a backstage and post-fight interviewer, with his first event being UFC 12: Judgement Day in Alabama on February 7, 1997.

Rogan hosted two short-lived TV shows: Game Show in My Head on CBS in 2009 (produced by Ashton Kutcher) and Rogan’s Questions Everything on SyFy in 2013. In 2020, he signed a massive deal with Spotify, reportedly worth $200 million, to exclusively host his podcast.

Joe co-founded the supplements and fitness brand Onnit, which was sold to Unilever in 2021. He often promotes Onnit products on his podcast. In March 2023, he opened his own comedy club, the Comedy Mothership, in Austin, Texas.
