Mominul Haque played his first first-class cricket match in the 2008-09 season for Dhaka Division in the National Cricket League (NCL) against Chittagong Division. Later that same season, he also debuted in List A cricket for the same team.
Mominul played his first Twenty20 match in 2011 for a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI against the West Indies. In 2012, he was picked to play for the Barisal Burners in the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). As of December 2022, this is still the highest partnership for the fourth wicket in any List A cricket match.
International Cricket Career
Haque played his first One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) matches against the West Indies at home in November and December 2012, replacing the injured Shakib Al Hasan. He made his Test debut in March 2013 against Sri Lanka in Galle. Later that year, he scored his first Test century against New Zealand in Chittagong, reaching 100 runs in exactly 100 balls.
In November 2014, Mominul Haque scored his fourth Test century in Chittagong, this time against Zimbabwe. In January 2018, he scored two centuries in the same Test match against Sri Lanka, with scores of 176 and 105 not out in each innings.
In 2015, Mominul Haque was the captain of the Bangladesh A team. In October 2019, he became the 11th captain of Bangladesh’s Test team after the International Cricket Council banned Shakib Al Hasan for two years for breaking the ICC’s Anti-Corruption rules.
Records and Achievements
Haque is one of only six batsmen in the world, and the only one from Bangladesh, to score 50 or more runs in 11 consecutive Test innings. He was also the first Bangladeshi player to score centuries in both innings of a Test match and the first from his country to reach 10 centuries in Test cricket.
