Naseem Shah is a Pakistani cricketer who plays internationally. In October 2019, when he was just 16 years old, he was selected for Pakistan’s Test series against Australia. He made his debut in November 2019, becoming the ninth-youngest player to debut in Test cricket.

Naseem Shah was born on 15 February 2003 in Mayar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He is 21 years old as of 2024. By profession, he is a cricket player from Pakistan. Naseem is from Mayar Jandool, a town in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

He comes from a Pashtun family. Shah’s father, Abbas Shah, wanted him to focus on his studies and was not supportive of his cricket career at first. His mother passed away in 2019, just a day before his Test debut when he was 16.

Naseem has two sisters and four brothers. His younger brother, Hunain Shah, is a fast bowler who plays first-class cricket.

His youngest brother, Ubaid Shah, also a fast bowler, made his Under-19 debut in October 2023 and was selected for the Under-19 Asia Cup in December 2023.

Cricketing Journey Of Naseem Shah

Shah started playing tape-ball cricket in Lower Dir. At 13, his uncle enrolled him in the Abdul Qadir Cricket Academy in Lahore, where he trained under Sulaman Qadir. He joined the Lahore Under-16 team at 13 and the Pakistan Under-16 team at 14.

Naseem made his first-class debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited on September 1, 2018, in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He played his first List A match for the same team on October 16, 2018.

In September 2019, he joined Central Punjab’s squad for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The PCB named him one of six players to watch for the 2019–20 National T20 Cup, where he made his T20 debut on October 13, 2019, for Central Punjab.

Shah played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League from 2019 to 2023 before being traded to Islamabad United in 2024. He made his Test debut for Pakistan on November 21, 2019, against Australia.

In December, he was part of the Test series against Sri Lanka, where he took his first five-wicket haul. At 16 years and 307 days, he became the youngest fast bowler and the second-youngest bowler overall to achieve this in a Test match.

On February 9, 2020, at 16 years and 359 days, Shah became the youngest bowler to take a Test hat-trick in a match against Bangladesh. In August 2022, he joined Pakistan’s ODI squad for the Netherlands tour and made his ODI debut on August 16, 2022.

He debuted in T20Is on August 28, 2022, against India. On September 7, 2022, Naseem hit two sixes against Afghanistan, helping Pakistan avoid defeat and secure a spot in the finals. In May 2024, Naseem was selected for Pakistan’s squad in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
