Navneet Singh Chahal, an IAS officer from the 2011 batch, became the new District Magistrate (DM) of Prayagraj on Saturday, September 2. Before this, he was Agra’s DM. Chahal is originally from Panipat, and his hard work in Agra helped him get this new position in Prayagraj, a larger and more important district.
He replaced Sanjay Kumar Khatri, who served as Prayagraj’s DM for two years and three months. Khatri took on the role in June 2021. Khatri has been given a new job as the Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) of Noida.

Navneet Singh Chahal was born on May 14, 1984, into an educated and well-off family in Panipat, Haryana. His father, Satyapal Singh Chahal, was an officer at National Fertilizers Limited in Panipat, and his mother, Parveen Chahal, was a history lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School in Panipat.
His dedication to education and strong values came from his family. Navneet topped in his 12th-grade exams and went on to complete his studies in Electrical Engineering from PEC Chandigarh.
He completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, and then earned an MBA in Finance from MDI, Gurugram, Haryana, as well as a Master of Finance from ESCP Europe, Paris, France.

Chahal passed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA Level 2) exam from the USA and worked as a financial analyst for three years in New York and Mumbai. However, he always had a strong desire to do something for his country.
So, he decided to return to India and cleared the UPSC exam in 2011. He was then selected as an IAS officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Chahal’s first posting was as a Joint Magistrate in Bahraich. He then served as Joint Magistrate and later Chief Development Officer in Meerut.
During this time, he focused on development projects like housing, pension schemes, toilet construction, and solar lights, benefiting the poor and needy. In 2017, Navneet Singh Chahal was appointed as the District Magistrate of Amroha.
During his time there, he took strict action against fraud in food distribution and worked to protect the environment by promoting tree plantation and stopping ill**** tree cutting to combat global warming.
