About Ramesh Sippy Biography
Ramesh Sippy was born on January 23, 1947, in Karachi, British India, into a Sindhi Hindu family. His father, G.P. Sippy, was a film producer and his mother’s name was Mohini Sippy. He has four siblings named Vijay Sippy, Suresh Sippy, Sunita Sippy, and Ajit Sippy.
Ramesh has been married twice, and his current wife is actress Kiran Juneja. From his first marriage to Geeta, he has three children. His son, Rohan Sippy, is also a film director.

Ramesh’s daughter, Sheena, was married to Kunal Kapoor, the son of actor Shashi Kapoor, but they divorced in 2004. Their son, Zahan Kapoor, is an actor who mainly works in Hindi films and theater. According to the reports, his current net worth is approximately $50 million from all of his income sources.
Brief About Ramesh’s Film Journey
Sippy first visited a movie set at the age of 6 for Sazaa, which was his father’s first film. His first role in a film came when he was 9 years old, where he played Achala Sachdev’s son in the 1953 movie Shahenshah.
Sippy worked as an assistant for 7 years before directing his first film, Andaz, in 1971. The movie starred Shammi Kapoor, Hema Malini, and Rajesh Khanna and was a big hit at the box office. His second film, Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), featured Hema Malini in dual roles and was also very successful.
In 1975, Ramesh directed Sholay, which featured a star-studded cast, including Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, and Amjad Khan as the famous dacoit Gabbar Singh.
Although the film started slowly at the box office, it eventually became the biggest blockbuster in Bollywood history. Sholay is still considered one of the most iconic films in Hindi cinema and remains a favorite among audiences around the world.
Sippy directed a popular television show called Buniyaad, which centered around the Partition of India. It aired on the Indian channel Doordarshan from 1986 to 1987.
However, his last three films—Bhrashtachar (1989), Akayla (1991), and Zamana Deewana (1995)—did not do well at the box office and were considered flops.
In 2015, Ramesh Sippy returned to directing after a 20-year break with his film Shimla Mirchi, a comedy featuring Rajkummar Rao, Rakul Preet Singh, and Hema Malini.
