Career Journey Of Upendra Dwivedi
Dwivedi started his military career when he was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on December 15, 1984, after graduating from the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. He later led a battalion in Chowkibal, located in the Kashmir Valley, during Operation Rakshak.
Over his distinguished 39-year career, General Upendra Dwivedi has held various important roles, including staff positions at the Headquarters of an Armoured Brigade, a Mountain Division, a Strike Corps, and at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army).
In February 2020, he became the commander of IX Corps. A year later, in April 2021, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff for Information Systems and Coordination.
On February 1, 2022, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi became the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command.
Later, on February 19, 2024, he took over as the 46th Vice Chief of the Army Staff, replacing Lieutenant General M. V. Suchindra Kumar, who then became the new head of the Northern Command.
