Vinod Kambli is a former Indian cricketer who played for the national team as a left-handed middle-order batsman. He also played for Mumbai and Boland in South Africa. He is a childhood friend of Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Vinod Kambli was born on January 18, 1972, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, into a Maharashtrian Hindu family. He is from Indira Nagar, Kanjur Marg in Mumbai. He is 52 years old as of 2024.

Kambli’s father is Ganpat Kambli, who worked as a mechanic, and his mother is Vijaya Kambli. He has three brothers: Virendra, Vidyadhar, and Vikas, and a sister named Vidya.

Kambli first married Noella Lewis, a Catholic, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Pune. After separating from her, he married fashion model Andrea Hewitt. They have a child who was born in June 2010.

Cricket Career Of Vinod Kambli 

Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar set a record by forming an unbroken partnership of 664 runs in a school cricket match against St. Xavier’s School in Fort. Kambli started his Ranji Trophy career by hitting a six off the very first ball he faced.

He made his debut in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in 1991 and in Test cricket in 1992. Kambli holds the record for being the fastest Indian player to reach 1000 runs in Tests, achieving it in just 14 innings.

He scored his first Test century, 224 runs, against England at Wankhede Stadium in 1993 during his third Test match.

Kambli is also the only cricketer to score three consecutive Test centuries in three different innings against three different countries.

In his 17 Test matches, he had an average of 69.13 in the first innings, but only 9.40 in the second innings, showing a big difference in his performance.

Kambli made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1991 against Pakistan during the Wills Sharjah Trophy. He played in the World Cup tournaments in 1992 and 1996.

Kambli played his last Test match at the age of just 23, and his last ODI was in 2000. He officially retired from first-class cricket on September 22, 2011.

Coaching Career

On August 15, 2009, Vinod started his own Khel Bharti Sports Academy in Mumbai and announced his retirement from cricket to focus on coaching there. He later became the Head Coach for the MCA Academy in BKC, Mumbai.

In early 2022, he completed his full-time role as the Head Coach at the TMGA Academy at DY Patil in Navi Mumbai. Kambli joined the Bhakti Shakti Party and was made the vice-president of the party.

Despite his political involvement, he also continues to do social work. In 2011, he supported Anna Hazare’s India Against Corr*uption movement.
