Shashi was a first-generation entrepreneur and industrialist who began his career in 1965 with guidance from his father, Nand Kishore Ruia. In 1969, he and his brother Ravi Ruia started the Essar Group, a company involved in industries like steel, energy, power, communication, shipping, ports, and logistics.
